This is an "I told you so" post to my mother: I remember reading a press release or something in which Blockbuster explains their new policy for late returns. Basically, if you don't return the video on time, Blockbuster orders another copy of the video and bills you the retail price, and lets you keep the late copy. In other words, if you're don't return it on time, you've bought it. At the time, there was no slogan like "No More Late Fees" associated with this press release; it was just Blockbuster changing their policy on late returns.

A few days later, I see a commercial on TV promoting the "No More Late Fees" program, and, me knowing the actual specifics of the program, balked "That's not true. There is a late fee. In fact, the late fee has been dramatically increase!" Well, my mom decided to believe the commercial rather than me, so I had to explain to her the specifics of the program, and pointed out that prior to this change of policy, if you returned the video a day late, you'd be charge $5 or something like that. Now you'll be charged $60, or whatever the price of a DVD is these days. She persisted in arguing with me that Blockbuster's slogan was representative of the new policy (though probably she was doing so jokingly; arguing for the sake of arguing).

Well, I told you so, mom. "New Jersey Attorney General Peter Harvey sued Blockbuster Inc. Friday, claiming the video rental chain is deceiving customers with its new 'No More Late Fees' rental policy."
