My brother's computer broke, and in the process of repairing it, I found he had an old NVidia TNT something or other. That's a pretty old videocard, and I figured it wasn't really providing him any acceleration over what the onboard video on the motherboard might be (in fact, it might very well be slower than the onboard stuff) so I took it from him.

The reason I want it is that it has a built in S-Video out port! So I've put that videocard into Stagger (my now defunct webserver), and now Stagger has become my Media PC. The video card works great, but the resolution on the TV is such that it's hard to actually read any text on there. That's when I discovered MediaPortal.

MediaPortal is an open source application that runs on top of WindowsXP that facilitates using your computer as a Media PC. It's sort of a cheap alternative to actually getting Microsoft Windows Medica Center. I haven't actually finished downloading it, so I don't know how it'll run on Stagger yet, but from the screenshots, it looks like it uses nice big fonts, which will help legibility a lot. It also has a database/playlist thing to import all your pictures, music and movie files, which is also very nice.
