I was reading some Ingersoll quotes, which triggered this thought: If you believe in the existence of a place like Hell, where one would suffer the greatest possible sufferance for all eternity, then if you are benevolent, you would do everything in your power to save people from hell. Nothing would be too atrocious a technique for your use in rescuing people from hell. You could kidnap, torture and molest childrens until their families agree to convert to your religion, because the pain you cause from the raping (both to the children and to their families) is minimal compared to the suffering they would have experienced in hell.
Thus, it follows that it would be extremely dangerous to society to try to convince anyone that such a place as hell exists, unless you were absolutely certain that it really did exist.
