I want to write a story about a "salesperson" who breaks into computers, reads e-mails to profile targets, and then starts a conversation with the targets over some instant messenging client, using the psychological information it gathered to persuade the target into buying the products.
In my story, the narrator messages a woman as one of his targets and tries to put his moves on her. He tailors his personality to be exactly what he expects she'll like. He falls in love with her. The kicker is that he's not actually a person; rather, he's a spambot — a program which is specifically designed to read people's e-mails and message their friends selling V1AGRA, etc.
Later on, he finds out she's a spambot too. At first, this seems perfect, as now they can "live together" on the Internet forever or something. But then each one realizes the other one doesn't actually have a personality of their own. They exists only as an idealized reflection of whoever they're speaking to. It's like holding up two mirrors to each other: no image is produced, as the photons just keep bouncing back and forth between them. So they drift apart and head their seperate ways, disillusioned.
