Lunette Orange Video
[Future Technology][Gadgets]

News of these "Orange" video glasses is going around the blogosphere. Since I'm from Quebec, I felt I might be qualified to translate the product description into English.

The "Orange" video glasses. A new experience: mobile video. Watch your favorite videos. Play the latest video games downloaded from Orange World. Explore the Orange World services. Read and send your mail, SMS, and MMS. 299 Euros, only for the Samsung D600E.

Play! Watch videos! Send mail! On a large, mobile screen! No matter where you are, on the train, or waiting for your flight at the airport, put on your Orange glasses, turn on your portable Samsung D600E, and your video content will appear to be on a giant screen floating 2 meters away from eyes thanks to a revolutionary visualisation technology. Watch videos on your Trans-Flash 128MB memory card. Orange offers you 10 cards: "Vu sur let net (Seen on the Internet)", 10 cartoons (manuel to survie urbain "Urban Survival Guide", Happy Tree Friends, etc.), Star Wars, King Kong, the TV publicity "Orange Intense". Download videos onto your PC and transfer them via USB or bluetooth on your Samsung D600E using the Samsun PC Suite that comes with your phone. On Orange World, access a wide variety of useful services, share your passion and hobbies. Download the latest games from Orange World and, thanks to your glasses, have a whole new mobile gaming experience! Orange is promoting video content for mobile devices. With "Orange film court" (Orange short films), the 1st video content for mobile devices content, Orange is commiting itself to an ambitious program of mobile media.

Price: 299 Euros. Samsung D600E: starting from 179 Euros (2 megapixel camera, bluetooth, MMS video). The site then lists various addresses in France. If you can't understand French, presumably you don't live in France, so that information is not useful to you.

The phone comes with the cable to connect the glasses to the phone, a Trans-Flash 128MB memory card preloaded with videos (choose one of the above mentioned collections of videos), two extra noze-guards of different size for different sized faces. A clip to attach your Samsung SGH-D600E and the case to your belt, three alkaline AAA batteries, a special cleaning cloth.

According to the website, these glasses have some sort of video connector (they don't specify if it's composite or S-video or what) so that you can connect to gaming consoles and DVD players.

Update: To answer a few questions, no, these glasses are NOT translucent or semi-transparent. That is, this is not a personal HUD. The screen blocks most of your vision, though you can still peak above it to temporarily check your surroundings. What you MIGHT be able to do is hook it up to a video camera, and then point the camera around corners or under doors, etc. so you can see things without exposing yourself. The glasses are said to weight 70 grams, and the screen is supposed to look like a 60cm screen floating 2 meters away from your eyes.
