Update

I don't know if I can remember everything since the last update. But here goes anyway.

That beggar woman, I haven't seen her since I bought her the box of crackers. Now I've been sort of just giving out granola bars and candy bars and stuff like that to random people I see near my work place. For some reason, I feel like I'm "in a hurry" when going home though, so if at that point I usually don't stop to give out stuff.

One day, I saw "2 for $3" special on candy bars, so I bought two candy bars and a $2 drink, but the cashier charged me $3.50. That can't be right, I thought, so I checked the receipt, and I got charged 50 cents for each candy bar. I gave one of the bars to a beggar guy outside the store.

I offered to buy a whopper to that same guy one day, but he surprised me by declining. I guess he isn't as poor/hungry as I thought.

I bought two candy bars again, and this time I was charged the normal price. I ended up giving both of them away anyway though.

I got all these 2 for 1 whopper coupons for burger king, but I can't finish 2 whoppers, which is why I'm always offering to buy whoppers for people. I pay for mine, plus a drink, and they get the free whopper. It's even better with that starwars promotion thing, 'cause I usually win a free drink too.

While setting up my brother's computer, I cut my middle finger on the case. It's one of the biggest unexpected cuts I've ever had, and blood was gushing out. Needed three bandaids to cover it.

Been playing Kingdom Hearts: Chain of Memories. Might write a review of that soon. So far, the verdict is it has some moderately serious flaws, but overall it's pretty good.

I had to teach myself COBOL via resources on the web for my job. Don't remember if I said that already.

Started playing DrumMania with modifiers now. 5x, dark, hidden, (combo) right. That's what everyone else does too though, so I added a twist. I play on tight. That's right, baby. Tight.

I once had an extra sandwich I made which I was too full to eat, so I offered it to a begger woman, but she said she didn't want it. I felt kind of embarrassed, so I haven't given anything to beggers from that time on. I mean, it was a pretty damn good sandwich...

See, a lot of people aren't even starving or anything, and yet they still beg for money. Doesn't make sense to me. That's why I only offer food.

Poor people have various needs, like all of us. They want money just like we want cash instead of another tie or another toaster for Xmas, because they want the freedom to choose. In developped countries, there is no real starvation anymore, thanks to public welfare programmes and private/religious philantrophies. However, human beings need/want more than basic stuff like food or shelter at night; sometimes they are addicted to alcohol, drugs, cigarettes, etc. Also lots of the beggars or homeless people you see on the streets used to be kept in psychiatric wards but because of budgetary restrictions, they had to be released without having any parents or friends to take them in.

Leafy is quite right that many beggars ask for money because they want the personal satisfaction of being able to choose what they get. Of course, it's equally probable that they won't buy a sub with it, so I also understand Neb's point of view.

So Neb, for your birthday (though I did this on the 25th), I got a sub on my way back from Ottawa and gave it to one of the many beggars that line the access to the Queensway. It was a medium Classic Club or something (I don't remember the exact name but it has Club in it), toasted, from the Quizzno's near my apartment that is in danger of going bankrupt, owned by a really nice guy almost exactl my age. I also try to frequent that particular restaurant to help him out, though it doesn't hurt that Quizzno's subs are a million times better than any other fast food, IMNSHO ;-)

I might sound like an asshole, but they are beggers, so they have no choice. Choice is something you can make after spending time and energy to make efforts and make some amount of money. So I think it's irrational of them not to take whatever is offered by people out of kindness, and strictly ask for money.

Another thing about beggers out there... What's the deal with ones with puppies? I know humans like dogs, but they absolutely have no right to own puppies, as long as they are out there on the street begging for money. Poor doggies that are so skinny because of malnutrition, or with bald spots because of skin disease. It just breaks my heart. If they own the doggies not because they enjoy their company but to earn sympathy and get more money, then I don't think they are too much of assholes to be let alive.

I was gonna ask but have been forgetting to. Do you think it helps to speed up so much like 5X?? Or is it just to make it more challenging? I do 4.5 now, and find it helpful when I want to try very difficult songs, cause I can slow it down to 4 and can see the score better, but I kind of think that 5 is too fast...

One time when I was walking home (this was when I was still in university), this beggar asked me for money with an accent that made him sound kind of retarded. I told him if he came with me, I'd buy him some food. He said he didn't want to inconvenience me, but I reiterated I'm not giving him money, but I'll buy him food. He said he was 32 years old and he could count money, and I said I don't care how old he is, if I'm gonna buy food for him, but not give him money. He said he didn't want to waste my time, and I told him he's wasting my time arguing here, so he can either come with me and get some food, or leave me alone. He said fine and started following me, so I said I'd buy him a hamburger. He said he didn't want a hamburger, and I started laughing 'cause the phrase "Beggars can't be choosers" popped into my head, but I said "fine, what do you want?" and he said "Forget it, man." without the accent and walked away.

I was thinking about giving a beggar with a puppy dog food, but I wasn't sure if he'd get pissed that his dog got foot and he didn't.

I play DM 5X because all the experts seem to be playing at that speed, and I want to become an expert too.
