Some speed cameras were installed, and motorists protested.
Saira Khan, from the Wiltshire Safety Camera Partnership, said 240 people had died or were seriously injured on the M4 in the past year. Defending the cameras, she said: "If those 240 people had been wiped out in one day there would have been an outcry."
Similarly, billions of people died on Earth. If it had all happened in a day, there would have been an outcry, and we'd all be fleeing to the Moon or Mars. But it didn't happen in one day.
School decides to ban hugging.
Centennial Middle School administration says there is too much hugging going on and it's gotten out of control. [...] The school has officially banned hugs in the hallways. [...] Centennial Assistant Principal Becky Escamilla said teachers were concerned about some students' behavior and asked for an official policy on in-school affection. No students have been punished under the new rule and it is unclear what the punishments would be. [...] Some Centennial students have started a petition called "hugs not drugs" asking the school to strike down the ban.
13 year old girl forbidden to have abortion.
A pregnant 13-year-old girl in Florida has been told she cannot have an abortion because she lacks the maturity to make such a decision. A state court granted an injunction which prevents the girl from terminating her pregnancy. She is three months pregnant and had planned to have an abortion on Tuesday of this week. The American Civil Liberties Union says it will launch an urgent appeal against the ruling. [...] The judge's ruling comes in spite of Florida state law which specifically does not require a minor to seek parental consent before an abortion. The American Civil Liberties Union 's executive director in Florida, Howard Simon, said forcing a 13-year-old to carry on an unwanted pregnancy to term, against her wishes, is not only illegal and unconstitutional, it is cruel.
Car thief gets caught at pay booth.
Police say the teen had carjacked the 2003 Isuzu from a man on Lexington Avenue and East 63rd Street around five a-m yesterday. When he was stuck in the E-Z Pass Lane without an automatic tag, and not enough toll money - Police Officer Robert Denaro began to ask questions. Police say 18-year-old Darwin David Guity couldn't produce a drivers license, or registration for the car. A computer check showed the car belonged to Vuong Minh - an Asian man. Guity is black and of Honduran descent.
