Terry Bressi @ Tohono O'odham Roadblock
[Non Existing Law]

You might get tired of these NEL stories, but I think it's important that they get a lot of coverage, because the "bad guys" in NEL stories, I think, are counting on the fact that their misdeeds don't become widely known. Police officers who use NELs probably don't want their victims to know their rights, what is and isn't a law, and so on. With that in mind, today's NEL story is Terry Bressi at the Tohono O'odham Roadblock.

(Note that all this information is from Bressi's side of the story.) At the road block, Bressi was asked to provide his driver license, but Bressi knew that given the circumstances he wasn't required to give his license and said so. He then asked if he was being detained, and the officer said he wasn't being detained, so Bressi said he was free to leave and was going to do so. At that point, the officers reached for their guns and told him to turn off the vehicle and exit the car.

He turned off the ignition and put the keys on the dashboard, then kept his hands on the steering wheel so that they were always visible. One of the officers got in via the passenger side, undid Bressi's seatbelt, and then shoved him onto the ground outside the car and handcuffed him. He was not told his Miranda rights.
