Nintendo president Satoru Iwata wants to sell videogames to people who don't want to play videogames. Interesting strategy. It sounds like Iwata will shift the focus at Nintento from "hardcore gamers" to their "sisters and mothers". Analysts theorize this might be Nintendo's bailing the console market, what with everyone looking forward to the XBox2 and the Playstation 3. Does Nintendo even have a Gamecube2 announced?
The two games Iwata demonstrated at GDC were Electroplankton and NintendoDogs. I had trouble navigating the Japanese Electroplankton site (for those for whom this will mean something, it looks like they use Katakana everywhere, instead of only where it's appropriate, which confused me a lot), so this is just a wild guess based on screenshots, but it looks like a series of mini-games like WarioWare, except involving plankton, tadpoles, and other lowlevel aquatic lifeforms. The NintendoDogs link, however, is immediately accessible. It's a movie of someone playing NintendoDogs, which seems to be a puppy simulator. You can throw frisbee and tennis balls and have your puppy fetch them, or pet the puppies, and so on. It's like Sexy Beach, except with puppies instead of girls in bikinis.
